Briarwood Harrison
It was again taken by my GGF, I.H.Harrison (IHH), who owned Briarwood House, Woodbridge in the late 19th C.  This plate was one of many - some, we think are local, and others range to N. Wales and abroad.

The boy standing, my cousins and I think, is Charles Alexander Harrison (CAH).  He was the middle son of IHH - My GF was the eldest and owned Briarwood until the 1950s.  The house was a USAF officers' mess in WWII.  The younger boy, glowering at the camera, is CAH's younger brother, George Vincent.  It is possible that the girl standing was one of their sisters but this is to be confirmed.

We also think the photo was taken in Martlesham churchyard (see grave stones in top RH corner of photo) and the group photo was to mark the Diamond Jubillee of Q. Victoria in 1897 (see the prominence of the flag).  CAH was 11 that year - he looks about the right age in the photo.

A positive id. of the site and date would be great.  Also, lots of the other children are clearly identifiable - so some one may be able to put names to some of the faces.

Also:

It clearly shows "an event" at my GGF's engineering works located at D. of York Corner, Woodbridge.  I think I am correct in saying this location is very close to our family home - Briarwood - which was called Yor Cottage?

I fancy the event may have been the opening day because the business did not last long as he left my GGM for a younger lady!!.

My GGF was an amateur photographer so I think the photo was taken by him.

Again, if any of your members etc.. can shed any light on the "event", the Works, or the Co. I would be really grateful.

In the late 1950's, my sister worked for Ingram Smith Builders in Woodbridge.  She has now lived in South Carolina for many years but is wondering what happened to the company.  She also recently found some photos of the girls she worked with.  Has anyone any information which I could pass to her.  Her name then was Diana Ingate.

I am tracing my mothers family(GIRLING) back as far as I can.
My g-g-g-grandad was Robert Girling who was born, I think, in Woodbridge in , about 1790 and married Elizabeth Ward in 1813. They had 5 children, Eliza born 1815, Sarah 1816, Robert 1819, Harriet 1821 and Emma 1827.  Their father, Robert was an inn keeper/ publican (shown on two marriage certs) In 1830 Pigots Directory shows the Landlord of the King`s Head,Market Hill as Robert Girling. Is this their dad?
I would be obliged if anyone can add any further light on the above either to confirm or not.
 Thanks in advance. Best regards
 Bob Holmes

Now located: Oregon, U.S.A.
Message:
6x great grandfather Edmund Cross, Jr left Walton for Colchester. his parents, Edmond Cross, Sr. and Mary Freeman, were both born in Woodbridge. Edmond Cross Sr.'s parents were Peter Cross and Johanna, maiden name unknown. Mary's parents were John Freeman of Acton and Susannah Rayner of Harwich. Peter's parents were Edmond Cross and Susannah, claimed to be maiden name Hinde but have not succeeded in finding a marriage record or any other documentation for them. I don't know John or Susannah's parents names. one descendant out of Woodbridge is believed to have come to America early, John Cross who m. Mary Fisher. but I haven't been able to prove that he and my John Cross are one and the same. both were Quaker, mine appears to have vanished from the records.
Edmond and Sarah joined the Quaker faith in 1655.
I'm looking for the more elusive branches of descent, though happy to speak to anyone with Woodbridge Cross or Freeman ancestry. looking for people who left the faith early, and ancestries that prove elusive, including John Freeman and Susannah Rayner, Johannah, the Freemans of Woodbridge, and the above mentioned John who's family remains to this day in the U.S. my own branch of the family came to America much later, in 1847.
