WWII Evacuation Exhibition - Sudbourne
Sudbourne Village Hall
Organized by/for: V M Worrall on behalf of Orford Museum
Starts 10am - Ends 6pm
Charges: free
An exhibition of press cutings and artefacts collected between 1942 and 1949 describe the sudden evacuation of 600 residents by order of the War Office. This area was designated a WWII Battle Training Ground. Once the war was over there was further consternation, as permission to return was not forthcoming. A petition was drawn up as the past residents began to understand their villages might not be returned to them. Press cuttings of the time tell of marches to London and Questions in the House.
